The New Hyundai Verna Transform features a revised front fascia with more agressive overall exterior look. Styling upgrades on the facelifted Verna/Accent include a pair of redesigned headlights, new signature grille with two bars and Hyundai logo placed atop. There is also a sportier front bumper with redesigned fog lights and larger air intakes. Styling changes at rear include redesigned tail-lights and redesigned rear bumper. Hyundai i10 has been rated the country’s most fuel efficient petrol car in the compact segment. The car has also emerged as the top seller in the ‘over 1 litre of capacity’ segment. The BS IV compliant car powered by a 1.2 litre Kappa engine under test conditions has achieved a spectacular mileage of 19.81 km to a litre of petrol. This is the best in class ARAI-certified fuel efficiency, among petrol cars in compact segment in India. The fuel efficiency and comfort of i10 also makes it the top selling car in the ‘over 1 litre of capacity’ segment. During the financial year 2009 -10, Hyundai i10 sold 149,242 units in the domestic market thus breaking all previous records and becoming the highest selling car in the ‘over 1 litre of capacity’ segment.
“The extraordinary fuel-efficiency of Hyundai i10, best among the petrol cars in its segment emphasizes Hyundai’s overall technology leadership in making highly fuel-efficient cars. We hope that the best-in-class mileage of i10 will enable us to increase our market share by reaching out to a larger customer base. We are also glad that i10 continues to be No.1 in its segment. This reflects the confidence customers place in our brands,” Arvind Saxena, Director, Marketing and Sales, Hyundai India , said.

Hyundai Motor Co. had its world-premier of the all-new Avante compact sedan, the company’s best-selling model worldwide, at the Busan International Motor Show 2010 today. “The new Avante encompasses Hyundai’s latest ambitions, featuring the best styling and performance in its class,” Steve S. Yang, President & CEO of Hyundai’s Global Business Division, said at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO) today. “We’re confident that it will once again redefine the compact segment worldwide.”
With sportier and even more elegant lines than its predecessor, the new Avante badged as Elantra in markets outside Korea – continues Hyundai’s ‘fluidic sculpture’ design philosophy. Hyundai has applied its latest 1.6L Gamma Gasoline Direct Injection engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission to the front-wheel drive compact, the first time GDI and six-speed automatic have been featured on a compact sedan in Korea. The new Avante delivers a peak output of 140ps and maximum torque of 17.0kg·m. It is also about 10 percent more fuel efficient than its closest competitors, thanks to GDI, the six speed automatic and other fuel economy enhancements.
The new Avante will delight and surprise with a raft of other advanced features not found on other compacts, including HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlamps, LED combination lamps in the rear, heated rear seats, puddle lamps and a color TFT LCD information display nestled in the gauge cluster. Under the Avante/Elantra badge, Hyundai has sold over 6 million units worldwide since the car’s launch in 1990. Hyundai will begin sales of the all-new Avante in the second half of 2010 in Korea.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd.(HMIL), 2nd largest car manufacturer in India, recorded a hike of 28.1% in its domestic sales segment for the month of April 2010. The segment-wise cumulative sales for April are: A2 segment (Santro, i10, Getz and i20) 46,059 units; A3 Segment (Accent and Verna) 5,944 units; A5 Segment (Sonata Transform) 17 units; and SUV Segment (Tucson) 0 units.

India’s largest passenger car exporter, Hyundai Motor India Ltd, expects a flat year for exports as many of its export markets are yet to pull through fully from the financial downturn. Hyundai exported over 2.85 lakh cars in 2009-10, a growth of 12.75 per cent over 2008-09, across 110 countries. The company accounted for 64 per cent of India’s total car exports during the year. In the domestic market, Hyundai sold 3.15 lakh units registering a growth of 29 per cent during the year.
“Though our export numbers are substantial, domestic market has always been our top priority,” said Arvind Saxena, director, sales and marketing, HMIL. “We are confident of a double digit growth in domestic sales this year, but exports may be flat. We are trying to add new markets but we have already covered major geographies and there is relatively little room for growth now.” Over 70 per cent of the Hyundai’s volumes are accounted for by small cars like the Santro, the i10 and i20. Hyundai, however, said the market will eventually grow for bigger cars and it will launch a range of products by around 2014.
“The Accent is doing well and there is good demand for it from the taxi segment. We will have new products in those segments to expand our presence further,” Saxena said. Though HMIL is close to reaching its terminal capacity of 6 lakh units a year at its two plants in Chennai, Saxena said there will be no need for capacity expansion at least for the next one year.
“We can stretch our production by around 40,000 units over our installed capacity and another 40,000 unit capacity will be freed as part of our i20 export volumes will move to Turkey. We are not shying away from investments but for the time being we have sufficient capacity,” he added. Hyundai will launch the sports utility vehicle Santa Fe later this year, while its small car below the Hyundai Santro is slated to hit the market by early 2012.

Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) may shelve the i10 diesel as the engine is proving to be very expensive. It is likely that the next-generation i10, which will come not before 2013, will have a diesel engine that will be localised in India from the start of production.

Hyundai India is looking to re-enter the premium SUV space with the launch of the latest generation Santa Fe this year. The company plans to launch the much awaited SUV by October and will price it around Rs. 20 lakh. It will be powered by a diesel powerplant and full time four-wheel drive.
