Audi has also launched its award winning supercar R8 in India. It is priced at Rs. 1.17 crore. “Before the launch of the vehicle (R8), we have 15 booking orders this year. We are hopeful of selling about 20 cars during next year,” Tiers said.
The company, which sold 884 cars in the country till October, aims to sell 1,000 units in the current year. Audi India assembles A4 and A6 at its Aurangabad facility and it targets to produce 1,000 cars in 2009, Tiers said.
The luxury car market seems to be unaffected by the ongoing financial turmoil in the country. All the luxury car makers like Porsche, BMW , Volvo, Mercedes, Audi, Rolls Royce have recorded fantastic growth in the past months. Daimler India, that owns the brand Mercedes has clocked 61 percent growth in its sales.
Porsche India is also hopeful of doubling its sales in the country and aims to sells 200 cars and sports utility vehicles against last year’s sales of 101 units. “There is a lot of pent up demand in the market, which was not fulfilled earlier due to the absence of companies which makes those cars.
We will be launching two more models next year,” says Rod Wallace, Managing Director, Porsche India. Porsche currently sells Boxster, Cayenne, Caymany and 911 models in India. Its cars cost around Rs. 50 lakh to Rs 2 crores in the domestic market. It also plans to appoint more dealers in the country, especially in Punjab along with Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore.

Audi will be adding the R8 to its existing lineup in the country, which already includes the A4, A6 and A8 sedans, the TT Coupe and the Q7 SUV.
Fifteen buyers in India have already put in their orders for the Audi R8, which offers performance that’s in the same league as a Porsche 911, Lamborghini Gallardo or Ferrari F430. These 15 cars will be delivered before the end of this year.
Of course, while the R8 will help build the Audi brand image in the country, the company’s bread-and-butter model will continue to be the A4 sedan, which is now being assembled at Audi’s plant in India.
