Auto Industry Updates and Reviews
Audi is on track to launch the Q5 SUV in the Indian market. The Audi Q5, which is smaller than the Q7 SUV that’s already on sale in the country, will be launched in January 2009, at a price of around Rs 45 lakh, ex-showroom.
Like the Q7, the five-seater Audi Q5 will be imported to India as a CBU and will compete against vehicles like the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz M-class and Volvo XC60. Engine options likely to be offered in India include a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 3.0-litre turbodiesel, with a seven-speed automatic gearbox that allows clutchless manual shifting.

Tata Motors , which recently bought a 50.3% stake in the Norway-based EV specialist, Miljo Grenland/Innovasjon, will now be working with the Canada-based Electrovaya for manufacturing lithium-ion super-polymer EV batteries in Norway.
Based in Mississauga, Ontario, in Canada, Electrovaya will receive equity in Miljo Grenland, a license fee for its battery technology, and royalty based on the value of its battery technology used in Tata Motors electric cars. Production of the batteries will begin in 2009, with the first Tata-Miljo EVs expected to roll out in the next 12 months.

After the YZF R15 , then the FZ16 - Yamaha is going to launch a new 125cc bike - The R125 . The R125 is a scaled down version of the R15 which itself is a scaled down version of the all conquering R1. It actually looks much better than the R15 and whether Yamaha will bring the R125 as such is still skeptical.

The Tata Xover , first shown back in 2005 as a concept vehicle, may finally make it to production reality next year. The vehicle, which may be renamed ‘Indicruz’ in its production avatar, will essentially be a seven-seater MPV that’ll take on the likes of the Toyota Innova and Chevrolet Tavera.
The production Xover/Indicruz is likely to be fitted with the 2.2-litre common-rail diesel engine that currently does duty on the Tata Safari and Sumo Grande. Expect a full complement of safety gizmos like ABS and airbags and a long list of luxury accoutrements, which could push the price up to the Rs 10 lakh mark, though the base model is likely to be available for around Rs 7.5 lakh, ex-showroom.

Audi has confirmed plans to launch a small electric city car, likely to be based on the VW Up! concept. Peter Schwarzenbauer, who sits on the management board at Ingolstadt, told Autocar “We will offer a pure electric car” at last week’s Paris motor show.
Schwarzenbauer was responding to rumours that Mini is planning an electric version of the Cooper for the LA motor show in November. He went on to reveal that the small electric Audi “will not be based on the A1″, the firm’s premium supermini, which was previewed by a concept car in Paris.
