Volvo to show C30, S40 and V50 1.6D DRIVe models at the Paris Motor Show

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

At the Paris Motor Show coming up next month, Volvo will be presenting economical new diesel variants of the C30, S40 and V50 models. These cars will have fuel consumption figures of 23km/l for the C30, and 22km/l for the S40 and V50. Corresponding CO2 figures of 115 and 118g/km mean that the C30 and V50 have best-in-class CO2 emissions in their segments. All three models - the C30, S40 and V50 - are equipped with a special set of efficiency-enhancing features and marked with the DRIVe emblem to signal their uprated environmental properties.

The DRIVe models are based on the Volvo C30 Efficiency concept car that was shown at the Frankfurt motor show in October 2007. The measures adopted to reduce CO2 emissions that were presented then will be in production before the end of the year in the C30, S40 and the V50.

‘We wanted to demonstrate that low CO2 ratings are not solely the preserve of small diesel cars. By offering the Volvo V50 with emission levels below 120g CO2/km, we are also making it possible for families and other customers who require extra space to make an active pro-environmental choice,’ says Fredrik Arp, President and CEO, Volvo Cars.

Volvo Plans New Car Plant in India

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Volvo had announced that it looks forward to expanding its operations in India. It has set its foot forward in the same directions and plans to enter the passenger car market in the country. It has already set a strong foothold in the commercial vehicle market in India and now plans to set up a new car plant. It will set up a new assembly unit in the country in next 18 months.

Currently, Volvo cars are being imported as completely built units or CBUS’s which attract a hefty 112 percent import duty on CBUs. The new assembly plant will enable it to lower its passenger car prices in a price sensitive car market like India. Volvo is also witnessing a rise in demand for its passenger cars but the inquiries often do not convert into sales due to highly priced models that attract import duty.

Setting up an assembly plant in India will enable the company to bring its car prices by as much as 30 percent. Thus, car falling in the price range of Rs. 40 lakh or more will cost less by few lakh rupees. Volvo plans to become a serious player in the luxury car segment in India

Volvo C30 optional decorative film

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Volvo seems to be really pushing the Volvo C30 as a fun hatchback, but I think this optional feature is abit too whacko. Stickers as decorations for cars are quite common-place - Proton has been quite notorious in the past with its compulsory optional stickers that cost a few hundred ringgit, and Naza has recently announced a new line of Edisi Grafix stickers for the Naza Suria.
