Yet another Tata Nano (probably the sixth in the country) burst into flames, this time in south Delhi. Fortunately no one was injured. The accident took place in a parking lot in Aurobindo Marg. There were sparks from the rear of the car as soon as the ignition was switched on. Within a few minutes, the fire engulfed it. A fire tender was rushed to the site and the fire was doused within a few minutes.
The sky blue Nano owned by SC advocate Ravinder Narayan in May last year. It had done 34,000km and had been serviced once. The cars driver Patrick John was driving from Connaught Place to Hauz Khas with the advocate’s manager. The car had done 9 kms since morning. John noticed sparks coming out of the rer (engine) and leaped out just in time. This news comes at a time when Tata Motors is planning to open bookings of the Nano throughout the country in a phased manner.
Tata Motors has come out with a BS4-compliant Indica V2. Christened Indica V2 Turbomax, this Indica gets a turbocharged 1.4-liter diesel engine that produces 71PS. The Indica V2 Turbomax gets 14-inch wheels as well. Equipped with a 1,405cc turbo-intercooled diesel engine, the Turbomax manages to produce 135Nm@2,500rpm. Despite good power and torque, the car manages to return 19kmpl, according to the brochure.
There are no changes to the car’s interiors. There are no airbags or ABS options either. It is available in two trim levels – DLE and DLS. The former, without power steering, will be the taxi cab operator’s choice. The latter should be the family man’s car who needs an inexpensive hatchback with power steering and air-conditioning that can that can seat five, has decent boot space, and travel long distances without putting a hole in his wallet. The Indica V2 Turbomax is available in four colors – Furnace red, Magnesium gray, Arctic silver, Mint White. The first two are applicable only to the well-equipped DLS variant aimed at family car buyers.
Hyundai India is all set to launch much awaited New Hyundai i10 VTVT. The new model is expected to feature all new front grille, new headlamps, tail lamps, adjustable head rests, new front and rear bumper but the most significant change will be new engine with VTVT technology. Maruti Suzuki has launched A-Star Automatic with a price tag of Rs. 4,81.000 (On-road Mumbai). Maruti A-Star Automatic is available in only one variant – VXi. It comes fully loaded with AC, Power windows, Power steering, Remote central locking, height adjustable driver’s seat, tachometer, internaly adjustable outside rearview mirrors, ABS(Anti-lock braking system).

Honda Cars India have added a new variant to its Jazz hatchback. Christened as Jazz X, it comes with new features such as rear parcel tray, alloy wheels and front fog lamps. Jazz X is priced Rs7,45,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). The ‘X Edition’ is an addition to the Jazz line-up boasts premium styling, spacious interiors, versatile utility and remarkable performance and fuel efficiency. Maruti Suzuki has launched a new version of its best selling Alto with the K10B engine. The Alto K10 has been launched at an ex-showroom price of Rs 3.03 lakh for the base LXi version and Rs 3.16 for the VXi version. The car will co-exist with the current 800cc Alto, offering a plusher option with more punch and better fuel efficiency. The 998cc, 3 cyl, MPFi, KB-series engine of New Alto K10 will be the same which is powering the Maruti A-Star, it generates maximum power of 67 Bhp with maximum torque of around 90 Nm. With this engine New Alto K10 will perform very well in terms of acceleration and top speed. The new engine not only makes the Alto K10 more powerful but also offer it a class-beating fuel efficiency figure. The company is claiming an ARAI approved figure of 20.2 kmpl for the light and zippy car.

Fiat has launched a more powerful variant of its small car, the Grande Punto. Fiat has give its Punto 90HP a more powerful version of the 1.3-litre Multijet engine that is capable of delivering 90bhp of power instead of the 75bhp on the regular diesel version. This engine uses a variable geometry turbo instead, helping it breathe better and thus delivering better power.
The car is priced at Rs 6.79 lakh (ex-showroom price, Delhi) and will take on the Hyundai i20 CRDi in terms of pricing and performance. Fiat will offer the car only in the Emotion trim and it will be sold alongside the Punto diesel’s 75bhp version. Customers will also be able to choose from an accessory package which includes rear spoiler, chrome exhaust, body decals, aluminium pedals and leather seat covers. Fiat sold 1,273 units of the Punto in June against 1,033 in May.
