Hindustan Motors Ltd., part of the CK Birla Group, has posted a net loss of $3.6 million (about Rs 17 crore) for the second quarter this fiscal, significantly worse than the $62,000 loss it posted in the year-ago period. ‘Rising input costs, foreign exchange rates and paucity of retail finance have impacted the quarter’s performance,’ said a company statement.
Apart from the Ambassador, Hindustan Motors also sells the Mitsubishi’s Lancer and Cedia sedans, and the Mitsubishi Pajero, Montero and Outlander SUVs in India, in a JV with Mitsubishi Motors of Japan.

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation will unveil, for the first time at an international motor show, the Lancer Sportback at the Paris Motor Show 2008 being held in Halls 1-8 of the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles from October 2 (October 4 for the general public) through October 19. The Lancer Sportback will have its European launch this fall with a phased introduction into the various countries in the region. The company will also be displaying the Lancer Ralliart and Lancer Sportback Ralliart models that are based on the Lancer. These models are powered by a turbocharged engine mated to Mitsubishi’s Twin Clutch SST (Sport Shift Transmission) and delivering power to all four wheels through an Active Center Differential.

Japanese automobile company Mitsubishi Motors is planning to bring Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X to India.Lancer Evolution X is the Evo 10 edition of Lancer sedan. The four-door, five-seater Evo 10 is fired by a 2-litre engine that belts out 295 bhp power, which is more powerful than the 3-litre engines.It may arrive in India early next year.Mitsubishi is also planning to launch Outlander SUV. This SUV would be developed at Chennai.
