Hindustan Motors Ltd., part of the CK Birla Group, has posted a net loss of $3.6 million (about Rs 17 crore) for the second quarter this fiscal, significantly worse than the $62,000 loss it posted in the year-ago period. ‘Rising input costs, foreign exchange rates and paucity of retail finance have impacted the quarter’s performance,’ said a company statement.
Apart from the Ambassador, Hindustan Motors also sells the Mitsubishi’s Lancer and Cedia sedans, and the Mitsubishi Pajero, Montero and Outlander SUVs in India, in a JV with Mitsubishi Motors of Japan.

Hindustan Motors and Mitsubishi Motors, launched The Mitsubishi Outlander, a technologically sophisticated and distinctive SUV. The Outlander is making a debut in India after receiving phenomenal success in North America, Japan, Australia, Canada and Western Europe, for its all-season, all-road capabilities, courtesy its unique Electronically Controlled All-Wheel Control System.
From the outside, the Outlander is a very good-looking SUV, with sporty lines and nicely molded lighting. The front has a prominent skid plate coming up from underneath, indicating a good approach angle for off-roading. The bumper bisects the grille’s honeycombed top and bottom to give it a strong performance look. The prominent wheel arches are pretty common these days, but the clearance inside the wheel wells suggest the Outlander is ready for bigger wheels.

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia has officially made available two additional variants of the Triton pick-up truck at its showrooms - the Mitsubishi Triton 3.2 4X4 Automatic and the Mitsubishi Triton Lite 2.5 4X2 Manual. This increases the Triton line-up to 4 different variants now, adding to the current offering of the 2.5 4×4 Automatic and the 2.5 4X4 Manual. You can spot the Triton 3.2 from the 2.5 liter versions by its different front bumper which has a little bumper protector, a chromed grille, and the different wheel design. Under the hood is the 4M41 3.2 liter inline-4 turbodiesel engine producing 160 PS at 3,500rpm and 343Nm of torque at 2,000rpm.
The Triton Lite is a 4X2 version of the Triton with smaller tyres. It rides on 15 inch wheels for one. The front bumper and grille is also rather basic and unpainted, with no foglamps. The much lower price of RM58,129.80 is due to the 2.5 liter engine being a more basic 8 valve SOHC version with no turbocharger. It puts out 75 PS at 4,200rpm and 149Nm of torque at 2,500rpm which is pretty much equivalent to a 1.6 liter gasoline engine’s torque. It is only available with a 5-speed manual.
