Maruti has launched the much awaited small car of the year - A-star . Like the swift petrol, A-star is also available in 3 variants - Lxi, Vxi and A-star Zxi. ZXi also comes with contemporary safety features such ABS with EBD and airbags.
Maruti Suzuki A-Star is a A-Segment car as per the European car standards. The car is produced from the company’s Manesar facility in Haryana.
Designed by Rajesh Kumar Gogu and Saurabh Singh of Maruti Suzuki India, A-Star, which is a five-door hatchback; has been engineered keeping in mind the trends and standards of the European market. Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch it on 19th November.
Peugeot is planning to launch its small and compact car in India and China by the year 2011. The new 5-seater car is expected to be extremely spacious and cater to the growing small car demands in the country. The car is expected to make its debut in next two years which will mark the entry of the company in the small car segment in India.
Peugeot will manufacture its small car in Turkey or Poland. The car will also make its debut in other countries such as Eastern Europe, Central Europe, Russia, Africa, Turkey and South America.
India is one of the biggest auto markets for small car segment. Small car sales in India amount to nearly two-third of the total car sales in the country. Nearly every auto manufacturer plans to introduce its small car in India which would enable to company to expand its market share. Toyota, Ford , Renault-Nissan, General Motors , etc. have already lined up the launches of their small cars in the country. This segment is currently dominated by Maruti Suzuki which occupies more than 50 percent market share.

The Japanese car maker, Nissan , will launch its super minicar, Nissan March in India by 2010. Tata Nano is slated for launch in early 2009. However, the full scale launch of Nano will be possible only in the second half 2009. In other words, the Singur fiasco has resulted in a boon for Nano competitors.
”The small, next-generation car ‘March’ will be launched in India by 2010 in the ‘A’ segment category. The car would be manufactured at the company’s plant situated at Oragadam in Tamil Nadu, though initially the car would be rolled out from the company’s Thailand facility followed by India,” said Shouhei Kimura, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India. ”We would have a total of nine Nissan models by the year 2012 in the Indian market and this car would be one of the new models,” he added.
