After launching the next generation Indica , Tata Motors is looking at unveiling the next generation variant of Indigo and a cross over vehicle between the Safari and Sumo .
Skoda customers seem to be the happiest ones in the Indian auto market. Skoda has topped the customer satisfaction survey second year in the row as per the survey conducted by JD Power Asia Pacific 2008 India for Sales Satisfaction Index Study.
The study surveyed nearly 5416 car owners from 20 different Indian cities who have owned cars for nearly two to six months. The study compared nearly 40 passenger cars currently available in the Indian auto market. It undertook seven key factors such as delivery process, delivery timing, sales staff, sales handling, dealer facility, legal formalities or paperwork and finalising the deal.
Skoda scored 799 on a 1000 point scale while Ford trailed by 792 points followed by Honda and Toyota that scored 782 points each and fell on the third spot. “Skoda customers are particularly satisfied with the salespersons and the sales initiation process. A salesperson plays a key role in providing a hassle-free vehicle purchase experience for customers and represents the face of the manufacturers,” says Mohit Arora, Senior Director, JD Power and Associates
After launching the next generation Indica Saturday, christened the Indica Vista , auto major Tata Motors is now planning to tread the same path with its Indigo, a senior company official said here Monday.
The sedan, which is based on the same platform as its hatchback cousin - Indica - was first unveiled in 2002, four years after Indica was launched.
“The next generational change from our stable will be done on the Indigo ,” Tata Motors passenger cars division president Rajiv Dube said on the sidelines of the Delhi launch of the next generation Indica.
Mahindra Ingenio is the new model slated for its launch in the last quarter of the current year. It was slated for a launch in August but it may be running on the Indian roads by January next year. The company has still not announced a final launch date for its new MUV.
It shall be manufactured at Mahindra and Mahindra’s Nasik facility in Maharashtra. The plant would be manufactured with an investment of Rs. 500 crore which would increase the annual capacity of the plant to 150,000 vehicles per annum. It has already signed MoU with the Maharashtra government for the new policy. “Importantly Maharashtra offers many advantages including access to a large reservoir of skilled and technical manpower and a well developed supplier base,” said Pawan Goenka, President, Automotive Sector, Mahindra and Mahindra.
The new vehicle shall be pitted against Toyota Innova, Tata Sumo Grande and the Chevrolet Tavera.

The new Indica Vista is a whole new generation of the car and has nothing in common with the current Indica, except for the brand name. Tata Motors is also working on a host of other products like the next generation Indigo which will be based on the Vista platform, a brand new crossover utility vehicle which is based on an all new utility vehicle platform. No timelines have been given by the company regarding these launches but expect them in the next couple of years.
“In six months, we will take the Indica Vista to international markets,” said Mr Dubey. “It’s a global product and meets all international safety and emission norms. We will re-enter Europe with the new Indica.”
Mr Dubey said: “It’s the new launches which are generating additional sales as older cars are stagnant or not showing any growth. We are banking on the new Indica Vista to give us some stellar sale figures in the next few months. Like any car company, we have also planned a complete changeover for the Indigo and Safari range to boost our performance in the domestic market.”
On being asked about Jaguar and Land Rover plans for India Mr Dubey said “Land Rovers are present in small numbers in Mumbai currently. Our colleagues at JLR (Jaguar-Land Rover) have chalked out plans for expansion in the country within a year, which will be followed by the entry of Jaguar”. The company is also getting ready for the biggest lauch of the year, the 1-Lakh rupee Tata Nano somewhere in October.

A updated version of the Bajaj Pulsar 200 is being tested around the outskirts of Pune. The bike was spotted with test plates by bikeindia. If you look closely you wont be able to find any difference compared to the regular Pulsar 200. Maybe Bajaj has tweaked the engine to extract more power to give the competition a run for their money. Or maybe Bajaj is going the FI route with the Pulsar 200.
