Auto Industry Updates and Reviews
Alfa Romeo is back in US, well partially. After exiting the US market in 1995 due to slumping sales and discontent customers, the brand is making a come back by launching the Alfa 8C Competizione , the $200,000 high performance coupe that has captured the fancy of automobile lovers across Europe.
The Alfa 8C Competizione is now officially available across USA through designated Maserati dealers selected to sell the car. But it doesnt matter as of now beacuse all the 8C’s earmarked for the US market for the year have already been spoken for.
The spyder version will come in later, by 2010. After the full operations are started in the USA, the whole Alfa range will be available throughout the dealerships, from Brera coupe to the 159 sedan or their replacements MiTo and the 149. The company is also looking at a large rear wheel drive car which will be based on a Jaguar platform.

Lexus Malaysia has added one more model to their line-up here in Malaysia, the short wheelbase version of the Lexus LS. The Lexus LS460 is 120mm shorter than the LS460L but you may not notice it at first glance because it manages to maintain similiar proportions, unlike the luxury sedans from other manufacturers where you can see the rear door is obviously much longer.
Priced at RM663,117.50 on the road with insurance, it is more than RM100k cheaper than the LS460’s RM797,583.50 price tag. Under the hood is the same 380hp 492Nm 4.6 liter V8. The rear legroom remains impressive, and a single rear bench is now used to accomodate 3 passengers at the rear. The LS460L’s could only seat 2 because of the latter’s two individual rear seats.
Because of this, the single rear Ottoman massage seat is also gone. Also missing in this version are the ventilated leather seats and the rear entertainment system with 9 inch display. All the other premium equipment in the LS460L has been carried over including the impressive 19 speaker Mark Levinson 7.1 sound system.
Subaru will be launching the production version of its 2007 Tokyo concept car, the Subaru Exiga. The Subaru Exiga is a 7-seater low-rider MPV that is 4780mm long, 1775mm wide and 1630mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2750mm. Although many reports the production Exiga to be Impreza-based, the concept version’s wheelbase and dimensions are more similiar to the Camry-based Toyota Mark X Zio (2776mm wheelbase) and the Honda Odyssey (2830mm wheelbase). In fact, the Exiga may have the next generation Legacy’s platform under its skin; the current fourth generation Legacy has a 2670mm wheelbase, so an increase to about 2750mm sounds logical.
Nissan has added a new three row 7-seater version of the Nissan Qashqai to its model lineup. The new SUV is called the Nissan Qashqai+2, aptly named because it is the Qashqai essentially with two more seats in the third row. The new Nissan Qashqai+2 only shares body panels with the Qashqai at the front up to the A-pillar, after of which it looks like the same SUV, but only a longer, extended version. The wheelbase has been extended by 135mm while length has been extended by 211mm. The new Qashqai+2 is also taller by 38mm. The third row is designed to fit humans up to 1.6 meters tall, which should be fine for children. The third row can be folded down to enlarge the boot area.
