Bajaj To Launch 2 New Bikes This Year

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Bajaj Auto is planning to launch two new 125cc motorcycles in this quarter. With the festive season around the corner, Bajaj Auto is bullish about good sales figures this quarter and new models should provide the boost it needs.

One of the motorcycles expected to be launched during this quarter is the Bajaj XCD DTS-i Sprint. Showcased at the 2008 AutoExpo, XCD DTS-i Sprint is expected to be launched with a 4-valve 125cc 4st engine producing a respectable 12.5bhp. Second model would likely be positioned toward the bottom of the 125cc market in an attempt to entice more 100cc motorcycle owners to switch to the 125cc segment.

Saab halts next 9-3 development

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Tougher emissions and fuel economy regulations in Europe and the United States have forced Saab to put the brakes on development of the next-generation 9-3. The next-gen model was set to be based on the longer and wider GM Epsilon II platform (used for the 2009 Saab 9-5). However, Saab and parent company General Motors are considering radically downsizing the model to fit GM’s upcoming ‘Global premium compact’ platform - a size rivaling the Audi A3. General Motors has also hinted that the new 9-3 could be manufactured in the United States. Many European automakers are feeling the impact a weak dollar is having on profits and, like BMW, are moving or increasing production in the States.
