Volvo has launched a new variant of the XC90 SUV in India. The new variant - the XC90 R-Design - is powered by a 4.4-litre petrol V8, and the vehicle is priced at Rs 58 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.
Volvo believes that the luxury car segment in India is picking up very fast. ‘Not many people are affected at the top end by the ongoing global financial crisis, and the luxury segment is picking up very fast,’ says Paul de Voijs, MD, Volvo Car India.
Volvo, which has sold 100 cars in India over the last one year, currently has only two models in its India lineup - the S80 sedan and the XC90 SUV. The company is gearing up to increase the number of models in its lineup in India, and will launch a smaller SUV - the XC60 - next month.

General Motors says it will close its SUV plant in the Dayton suburb of Moraine on Dec. 23. Spokesman Chris Lee says the some 1,100 remaining workers were informed this afternoon of the closing date. The automaker earlier this year announced plans to close the plant by the summer of 2010 or sooner, then accelerated shutdown plans as part of companywide cost-cutting moves.

Hindustan Motors and Mitsubishi Motors, launched The Mitsubishi Outlander, a technologically sophisticated and distinctive SUV. The Outlander is making a debut in India after receiving phenomenal success in North America, Japan, Australia, Canada and Western Europe, for its all-season, all-road capabilities, courtesy its unique Electronically Controlled All-Wheel Control System.
From the outside, the Outlander is a very good-looking SUV, with sporty lines and nicely molded lighting. The front has a prominent skid plate coming up from underneath, indicating a good approach angle for off-roading. The bumper bisects the grille’s honeycombed top and bottom to give it a strong performance look. The prominent wheel arches are pretty common these days, but the clearance inside the wheel wells suggest the Outlander is ready for bigger wheels.
Mitsubishi will launch its first crossover Outlander in India. Outlander showcased at the Delhi Auto expo garnered large number of customer and is one of the most expected vehicle of 2008. Unlike the Pajero and Montero this new Outlander crossover is meant to run on tarmac.
It is powered by a 2.4L MIVEC engine mated with a six speed manual transmission and six speed paddle shift. The engine pumps out 170PS of peak power at 6000rpm and a peak torque of 226Nm at 4100rpm. According to Mitsubishi, Outlander is capable of hitting a top whack of 190km/hr.
The wheelbase of the outlander is 2670mm. Versatile seating, LED tal lamps and split tail gate with park bench are some of the prominent features of Mitsubishi Outlander. Outlander will be available in six colours - river blue,silver dew,cascade white,sunrise yellow,pasture green,new moon black and twilight red.
