Mahindra India has launched a ’special edition’ Maxx Maxi Truck, which is priced at Rs 3.30 lakh, ex-showroom Chennai. Only 1,000 units of this vehicle will be made and will be fitted with an MP3 player/radio, revamped instrument panel and dashboard, uprated seat cover fabric and twin external rear view mirrors.
The Mahindra Maxx Maxi Truck will be available in a new colour - Champagne - and the bodywork will sport new, distinctive graphics. With its 63bhp, 18Kgm MDI engine, the vehicle has a top speed of around 100km/h, has a load carrying area of 37sq.ft., and can haul up to 900 kilos.

Tata Motors is currently exhibiting the Indica Vista hatchback and Sumo Grande MUV at the ongoing Johannesburg International Motor Show in South Africa. The company will launch both these vehicles in the South African market early next year.
Tata Motors is also showing various commercial vehicles in South Africa, including the Ace mini-truck and other trucks, tippers and buses. ‘The Tata Group has a long and cherished association with Africa. We would like to continue this association with our increasing involvement in various important projects and operations,’ said Syamal Gupta, Chairman of Tata International and Director of Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group. ‘South Africa continues to be a strategic market for us. The increasing range of Tata Motors passenger cars and commercial vehicles will further consolidate our strong presence in South Africa,’ he added.
In South Africa, Tata’s range of cars and MUVs is sold through Accordian Investments, a joint venture company in which Tata Africa and Associated Motor Holdings have an equal share holding of 40 percent each, with the remaining 20 percent being held by Ukhamba Holdings Ltd., of the Imperial Group.
According to Manny De Canha, chief executive of Associated Motor Holdings, the Tata brand has received an enthusiastic response from the South African motorist. ‘This is reflected in the 67 full-fledged dealerships already operational across South Africa. We are confident that Tata will continue to be a huge success in South Africa through new models being introduced,’ he says.

The much-awaited Mahindra MUV - Xylo is expected to be launched by december this year. Developed in-house under what the company calls Project Ingenio, the Mahindra Xylo will build on the Scorpio ’s success and take the company’s SUVs to the next level towards becoming world class products.

Audi is on track to launch the Q5 SUV in the Indian market. The Audi Q5, which is smaller than the Q7 SUV that’s already on sale in the country, will be launched in January 2009, at a price of around Rs 45 lakh, ex-showroom.
Like the Q7, the five-seater Audi Q5 will be imported to India as a CBU and will compete against vehicles like the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz M-class and Volvo XC60. Engine options likely to be offered in India include a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 3.0-litre turbodiesel, with a seven-speed automatic gearbox that allows clutchless manual shifting.

Volvo has launched a new variant of the XC90 SUV in India. The new variant - the XC90 R-Design - is powered by a 4.4-litre petrol V8, and the vehicle is priced at Rs 58 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.
Volvo believes that the luxury car segment in India is picking up very fast. ‘Not many people are affected at the top end by the ongoing global financial crisis, and the luxury segment is picking up very fast,’ says Paul de Voijs, MD, Volvo Car India.
Volvo, which has sold 100 cars in India over the last one year, currently has only two models in its India lineup - the S80 sedan and the XC90 SUV. The company is gearing up to increase the number of models in its lineup in India, and will launch a smaller SUV - the XC60 - next month.
